Students’ Grammatical Errors In Writing Narrative Essay At The Fourth Semester Of English Department

Based on the background of this research, in writing narrative essay the students have limited knowledge, they still confused to choose the suitable tense or what the tense is used in narrative essay. Through this research, the researcher wanted to find out of grammatical error in narrative essay at Fourth Semester in English Department of STKIP YPM academic year 2019/2020. In this research , the researcher used descriptive quantitative research that suitable with the aim of the research. The researcher was decided to conduct  this research at STKIP YPM. The population in this research was Fourth students in English Department of STKIP YPM academic year 2019/2020, with total population  were 25 students. In collecting the data, the researcher was used essay test to collect the data. Based on the result students’ test in writing narrative essay, the researcher found the students grammatical error in writing narrative essay. The students were error in narrative essay in category format has 19 error or 9.5%, mechanic has 70 errors or 34.7%, content has 11 errors or 5.5%, organization has 3 errors or 1.5%, introduction has 15 errors or 7.5%, body has 15 errors or 7.6%, and conclusion has 13 errors or 6.5%. I grammatical error was noun has total 19 errors or 9.5%, verb tense has  total 30 errors or 15%, adjectives has 3 errors or 1.5%, adverb has 1 error or 0.5%, and the last is preposition has 3 errors or 1,5%.  It can conlude that the students in Fourth Semester at English Department of STKIP YPM made was Extremely Good with average score 83, but the students still make an errors in writing and grammatical in narrative essay.
