Abstract
The questions of formation of phonetic competence of students in English are considered. The definition of phonetic competence is given, its structure and content are described. The article deals with the concept of phonetic competence as an integral part of the foreign language communicative competence. Identified such components of phonetic competence as cognitive, pragmatic, socio-cultural and reflexive.
