Abstract
This paper analyzes the forest community structure and the influence of deforestation with Naehoy in Mt. Baekwoon as its subject area, for the purpose of obtaining data on the forest community structure of the area and the management of natural foresr. The results are as follows : 1. The 95 plots were classificed by TWINSPAN method into the south-facing and the north-facing slopes. The southern slopes had groups of Pinus densiflora, one of the intolerant trees : on the other slopes were mixed stands of the broad-leaved trees. 2. By the DCA ordination, such communities as Pinus densiflora, Quercus variablilis, Quercars serrata-Quercus variabilis. Quercus serzata and Capinus kzxiflora were clearly divided from right to left. From up to down the communities of Quercus yraongolica, mixed stands of broad -leaved trees and Acer mono were recognized. DCA was more effective than TWINSPATi, dividing the community into 8 clearcut groups. 3. The importance values of the canopy and the understory trees of each group were as follews. In Group A(15 plots), Pinus densiflora showed the highest value of 48.3%, in Group B(13 plots), Quercus variabilis 43.8% ; in Group C(8 plots), Quercus serrata 26.1% ; in (croup D(21 plots), Quercus serrata again 40.2% ; in Group E (18 plots), Carpinus laxiflora 31.8% ; in Group F(4 plots), Quercus mangolica 45.9% : in Group G(11 plots), Quercus serrata 11.2% : in Group H (4 plots), Acer many 17.8% respectively. 4. In the classification of the main tree species appearing more than 5 times in the subject area, the first division of the tree story was classified into 4 groups. But the arrangement of the tree species was different from that by the ordination analysis. 5. According to the analysis of the correlation between each tree species, Pinus densiflora showed a negative correlation in the level of 5% with Carpinus laxiflora, i.indera erythracarps. Sapium japonicum, Acer ,bseuda-sieboldianum, and Stewartia koreana, and also a negative correlation in the level of 1% with Quercus serrata and Rhus trichocarpa. This means that they belong to different ecological niches. 6. As to the frequency distribution by DBH (diameter at breast height), Pinus densiflora was predominant in the DBH range of 2-32㎝ in Group A. Quercus variabilis showed high frequency in the range of 2-17㎝. 7. The species diversity and the maximum of species diversity and the evenness increased as it went from Pinus densiflora community to Quercus variabilis to Quercus serrata. On the contrary, they decreased as it went from Quercus serrata to Carpinus laxiflora. 8. The resemblance degrees between Pinus densiflora and Quercus ser-rata, Pinus derzsiflora and Carpinrzs Laxiflora, Pinus densiflora and Acer mono, Quercus mongolica and Acer mono cantmunity were less than 20%, showing they are communites of a different nature. But the resemblance degrees between Quercus serrata-Quercus aariabilis and Quercus variabilis, Quercus serrata and mixed stands of broad-leaved trees, Quercus variabilis and mixed stands of broad-leaved trees were more than 55%. 9. the DCA analysis of soil factors revealed that all the factors except soil pH were increasing as it went from Group A(Pinus densiflora) to Group E(Carpinus laxiflora) . 10. In the 5 degree DCA ordination by- such soil factors as soil pH, moisture, organic matter, exchangeable K^+, Ca^(++) and Mg^(++), Pinus densiflora and Quercus mongolica communities stood in the low degree of most factors. But Carpinus laxiflora, mixed stands of broad-leaved trees and Acer mono stood in the high degree. 11. A negative correlation was recognized between the content of Ca^(++) and Mg^(++) and the first axie score of DCA. But a positive correlation of 1? level was recognized between the content of pH. K^+. Ca^(++) and Mg^(++) and the second score. 12. The research plots 1, 4 and 7 could represent the 10 plots examined in the structure analysis of each story of the tree communities.
