Abstract
Cystoscopic examination of the lower urinary tract is a cornerstone of urologic practice. This chapter outlines the technical aspects of rigid and flexible cystoscopy as well as their role in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of urologic diseases. In-office endoscopy, now commonplace, continues to expand and improve its abilities. Diagnostic evaluation capabilities utilizing newer technical equipment has become increasingly simplified and streamlined. As the endoscopes become smaller, their visualization and working port capabilities are maintained and have even improved. Distal sensor cystoscopes have recently been introduced in an effort to provide urologists with better optical resolution, contrast, color differentiation, and improved durability.
