Abstract

In this work, we have synthesized activated carbon fibers impregnated with polyethyleneimine (PEI), followed by CO2 adsorption experiments in the flue gas condition. Activated carbon fibers used in this study are mainly composed of micropores as indicated in N2 adsorption/desorption isotherm. It indicates that they are so favorable for CO2 adsorption since CO2 can be adsorbed in micropore rather than mesopore. Also, polyethyleneimine impregnated onto carbon surfaces gave the adsorbents CO2 affinity sites, leading to highly selective CO2 adsorption process in the mixed gas condition. From the results, the prepared adsorbents can be applied for carbon capture and sequestration systems.
