Abstract

The hydrofoil installed on the ship functions to create the ship's lifting force and cause the ship to be full of water, the submerged surface area and the friction force of the fluid in the hull will decrease so that the value of the ship's resistance will also decrease. The advantage of installing this surface piercing hydrofoil is that the power needed to move the Jalapatih 3 solar energy ship will be more efficient. The hydrofoil foil profile that will be used is NACA 4412 which is often used for compressible flows such as water. Before being implemented on the Jalapatih 3 ship, the hydrofoil performance is calculated first to meet the ship's lifting capacity requirements related to the variation in speed of 6 m / s - 10 m / s. The hydrofoil used has a span of 700 mm and a chord length of 150 mm. The selected hydrofoil was applied on the Jalapatih 3 ship using the CFD method with 3 conditions, namely the ship was empty and the resistance was 590 N, the ship with the hydrofoil resistance was 380 N and lifted 100 mm. Broadly speaking, the application of NACA 4412 with these dimensions has met the initial design.
