Field efficacy of green chemistry molecule (Chlorantraniliprole) against tomato fruit borer, Helicoverpa armigera (Hubner)

Abstract

Efficacy of chlorantraniliprole 18.5SC @ 150 ml/ha was evaluated at farmers field level for its efficacy against tomato fruit borer, Helicoverpa armigera during 2017. It was compared with flubendiamide 480 SC @ 75 ml ha-1 as standard checks. The experiment was conducted at three locations in district Ludhiana in collaboration with farmers. Chlorantraniliprole being green and eco-friendly molecule gave better results than untreated plots where no insecticide was applied and was at par with flubendiamide for the management of fruit borer in tomato. Significantly lower larval population and fruit infestation was observed in chlorantraniliprole which was on a par with standard check flubendiamide after 3, 7 and 10 days of spray. The highest yield, highest increase in yield over control and maximum avoidable losses were obtained in chlorantraniliprole. Overall, the present study revealed that the newer insecticide chlorantraniliprole @ 150 ml/ha can be used for the management of H. armigera on tomato. Avoidable yield losses could serve as a guide to farmers so as to manage the information of this borer in tomato.
