Abstract

A. Information Collection Techniques • This section examines several methods of collecting traffic information: inductance detectors, piezoelectric sensors, microwave radar sensors, ultrasonic detectors, closed circuit television, machine vision, compressed video surveillance, land-mobile units, automatic vehicle identification and location, aerial surveillance and citizen call-in.Each technique is evaluated using the following criteria: implementation time frame, performance reliability, scale of observation, cost and institutional considerations. Most of these techniques are used to collect traffic information in the Tampa Bay area The results of an Infrastructure Inventory survey among project Advisory Committee members are contained in Appendix G.
