Abstract

1. The Standard Model and its open questions All the visible matter in the Universe and the known forces between matter are described well by the Standard Model. Within the Standard Model, the strong interactions reflect invariance under the local SU(3) colour gauge group, and the electromagnetic and weak interactions are described by a Lagrangian that is invariant under local weak isospin and hypercharge gauge transformations, described using the SU(2) ⊗ U (1) group, which can be written as L =− 1 F a F amn
