Abstract
Objective To investigate the expression of mRNA for TGF β,MMP\|1 and TIMP\|1 and their effects on the formation of hypertrophic scar (HTS). Methods In situ hybridization and image analysis were used in this study. Results The expressions of mRNA for TGF β and TIMP\|1 in HTS was greatly increased compared with those of normal skin. The average integral optical density of mRNA for TGF β and TIMP\|1 increased by 8 and 7 folds ( P 0.001) related to normal skin and the expression of them showed highly positive correlation. Conclusions The findings suggest that TGF β promotes the expression of TIMP\|1 and may be a possible factor for hypertrophic scar formation.
