Abstract

Objective To determine the relation of VEGF expression with MVD and prognosis in human bladder urothelium cancer. Methods The study included 50 patients of primary bladder urothelium cancer. We analyzed VEGF on paraffin embedded samples by immunohistochemical methods. Results The positive expression of VEGF was observed in 31 tumors(62%).VEGF expression was significantly related with the MVD and infiltrative growth pattern(P0.05).Patients with VEGF-positive bladder cancer had a poorer prognosis than those with VEGF-negative ones. Conclusions The abnormal expression of VEGF is the major element in increasing forming capability of the microvessel. The positive expression of VEGF is significantly related with MVD and tumor progression and poorer prognosis in bladder cancer.Quantification of VEGF may provide valuable markers for a poorer prognosis of patients.
