Abstract
Objective: To introduce hard tissue cephalometric measurements by Burstone methods,and provide the norms of this special cephalometric analysis,which will be guideline for clinical orthodontic diagnosis.Methods: 99 males and 111 females were selected from approximately 4613 students in the school of Songyuan city,Jilin Province.Each cephalometric radiograph was traced.Descriptive statistics was obtained for all variables.Student's test was performed to determine the norms.Results: Appropriate norms for Chinese according to Burstone cephalometric hard tissue measurements were obtained.Conclusion: The skeletal components of malocclusion are examined with regard to their size,position and angular orientation.Assessing skeletal relationship by Burstone methods is particularly valuable for patients who are candidates to growth modification therapy or orthognathic surgery.
