Abstract

Objective To explore the inhibitive effects of doxycycline on corneal angiogenesis after keratoplasty. Methods Rat corneal allogenic transplantation models were prepaired.Recipients were randomly divided into 2 groups:Group A(saline group) and group B(doxycycline group). The size of corneal angiogensis and the expression of VEGF proteins in two groups were examined. Results Compared with the mean survival time of group A(9.67±2.73) days, the mean survival time of group B(20.67±3.01) days was significantly prolonged. In addition, both the mean percentages of neovascularized corneal area and the expression of VEGF in group B were less than that in group A(P0.01).Conclusion Doxycycline can significantly inhibit corneal angiogenesis and prevent corneal allograft rejection after keratoplasty.
