Abstract

[Objective] To study the lipid-lowering effects of garlic-vitamin capsule. [Methods] 32 female SD rats were randomly divided into 4 groups according to body weight and serum cholesterol levels. Rats in control group were fed with reference diet and the others were fed with high fat supplemented diet. Rats in low and high preventive groups were simultaneously fed with powder of the capsule. The low dose was 100mg /kg and the high was 200mg /kg. After 5 weeks, the serum total cholesterol(TC) ,triglyceride(TG) ,high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C) and low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C) were determined. [Results] The serum TC,TG,LDL-C and atherosclerotic index(AI) levels of rats in two examined groups were decreased compared with the high fat model group. The high dose groups were significant(P ﹤ 0.05) . [Conclusion] The garlic-vitamin capsule has some adjuvant preventive and therapeutic effect on the hyperlipemia.
