Transplantation of the cutaneous fibular flap for the repair of bone and soft tissue defect of the extremity caused by osteomyelitis

Abstract

Objective To report the clinical effect of the transplantation of cutaneous fibular flap for the repair of the defect of bone and soft tissue of extremity caused by osteomyelitis. Methods Eighteen bone and soft tissue defects of extremity caused by osteomylitis were treated with transplantation of free cutaneous fibular flap.Among them there were 8 cm～20 cm bone defects and 5 cm×6 cm～8 cm×22 cm soft tissue defects respectively. Results All the cutaneous flaps were survived completely.The healing rate of all defects reached 100%. Conclusion The free cutaneous fibular flaps is ideal tissue for the repair of bone and soft tissue defects caused by osteomyelitis.
