Abstract

A report of the Sweden new government on the future for bioenergy is presented. The report state that the agriculture sector supplies 1.5 TWh of biomass energy to the Swedish energy system in the form of wheat, rapeseed, and some willows. A report discloses the fact that agriculture can play an important role in the development of Swedish energy system in the future. The most profitable crops for the Swedish farmers for energy production are willow, rapseed, and wheat. The report predicts that wheat for ethanol production can be profitable for Swedish farmers in the future. It has been reported that the expansion of willow production from 15,000 to at least 50,000 hectares will be enough to create well functioning market. A reports recommends that productive agricultural land should be given a special national interest status. The report has suggested for the expansion of willow plantations for use in combine heat and power production (CHP) plants and in biogas market.
