Abstract
The clonogenic cell survival assay determines the ability of a cell to proliferate indefinetely, thereby retaining its reproductive ability to form a large colony or a clone. The colony is defined to consist of at least 50 cells. Clonogenic assay is the method of choise to determinate cell reproductive death after treatment with ionizing radiation. After treatment, cells are incubated for 6 days to form colonies. Colonies are fixed with 96% ethanol, stained with crystal violet and counted using Imade J software. For the analysis of relationship between the radiation dose and the fraction of cells retaining their ability to reproduce, cell survival curves are used.
