Abstract

Self-perceived physical fitness test is inexpensive and easy to operate where the objective physical fitness test is hard to be administered. However, the validity and reliability of the self-perceived physical fitness test is not established yet. Therefore, in this research, as a preliminary research to developing the test, potential of the self-perceived physical fitness test are proved by literature review and several strategies are proposed to enhance validity of self-perceived physical fitness test. In the literature review, the relation of self-perceived physical fitness test and direct physical fitness test are varied in each research. When the items are specific and easy to understand, the correlation tend to be high between the result of subjective response and objective testing. The evidence-based items are also explored through media news report which related to physical fitness and published in academic research paper. Also, multiple item, hiding the objective and imposing verifiability should be considered when developing the test item for self-perceived physical fitness in future research.
