Abstract

This study attempts to analyze the struggles found in the female main character in Gather Together In My Name autobiography. The analysis focused on the struggle of black woman, the struggle of the main female character is struggle as a mother in the workplace, struggle to raise a child and struggle as a partner love to be in a relationship and overall as an oppressed Black woman in her society. Struggles are highly related to the black feminist, the way the female main character bears and survives in her life. The main female character wants to compromise the Black women stereotypes which oppress her. The struggle by the female main character in Gather Together In My Name is analyzed based on the Black Feminist Thought theory propounded by Patricia Hill Collins (2000). Qualitative approach is used in conducting this study; also the data and the result were presented in the form of essay. The findings indicate that the female main character in Gather Together In My Name deals with several discriminations, as a black person, as a black woman and as a poor black woman. In which, the female main character should struggle for her life because she wants to show people that as a colored woman she can do anything.
