Abstract

A trilateration method of 3 reference stations or Roadside Units (RSU) to find the accurate position of an Onboard Unit (OBU) is presented in this paper. This study is based on drive test results. To investigate the effectiveness of the trilateration method., a comparison of the results obtained from the computation using 2 RSU (test 1) and 3 RSU (test 2) is presented. Results from trilateration has been validated by using Global Positioning System (GPS) solution. Results revealed that the separation distance and spatial location of RSU will affect the accuracy of the trilateration method. Meanwhile., trilateration method using 3 RSU can reduce systematical error effectively. Finally., output from this study is crucial to develop the network of RSU for supporting accurate positioning in future.
