Abstract

I started my IT career working with Unix systems and databases. That includes databases and applications on platforms like System V Release 4, IBM AIX, HP-UX, Sun Solaris, and of course Linux. Back in 1991, I was using Unix on minicomputers, and I was always wondering how I could run Unix on less expensive hardware, such as a PC, so I could better test and learn how it works. Then I discovered Linux while reading a personal computing magazine article.
