Abstract

This article aims to investigate the role of Ademar Vidal (1897-1986) in the scene of folk studies, as well as the elaboration of the folklorist. To this end, we analyzed the letters exchanged with Câmara Cascudo. We also tried to understand the establishment of institutions concerned with this operationalization of the Brazilian Folkloric Movement (MFB) in the 1940s. We tried to reflect on Vidalian perceptions about culture, folklore and his inclination towards these studies, noticing these performances reflected in his production during the period. Thus, we highlight his participation in the Brazilian Folklore Society (SBF) and the creation of the Society of Folklore (SFP), as a counterpart of the other, which was led by Ademar Vidal from 1941 to 1944. In this way, we outlined the methodological proposal developed by the SBF, in an attempt to organize a profile for the folklorist and establish an organization to the process of folklore research. We conversed with Jean-Francois Sirinelli (2003), Durval Muniz de Albuquerque Junior (2013b), Luis Rodolfo Vilhena (1997) and Monica Pimenta Velloso (2007).
