A Study to Assess the Awareness of Mothers of School Age Children on Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse – A Parenting Challenge

A non-experimental research study was adopted to identify the Awareness of Mothers of school age children on Child Sexual Abuse. In India, an estimated 679,000 children are victims of abuse and neglect as per the recent statistics. Mothers who satisfied the inclusion criteria were selected by convenience sampling technique and provided with questionnaire on Knowledge, attitude and practice regarding Child sexual abuse. A teaching using power point presentation and then a video was projected on prevention of child sexual abuse to the mothers. Analysis was done using chi-square test, frequency and percentage. Result: The analysis of knowledge level reveals 37% of mothers had inadequate knowledge and 53% of them had moderately adequate knowledge. 40% of mothers had negative attitude and 50 % of them had very good practice regarding prevention of child sexual abuse.
