Abstract
A number of studies have been conducted on different flow control techniques in order to increase the aerodynamic performance of different airfoils. This study will be focusing on a passive blowing flow separation control technique known as ‘vented airfoil’. Vents are designed inside the airfoil geometry in order to inject high momentum fluid from pressure surface into suction surface to manipulate the flow over the airfoil in order to delay the boundary layer separation. This paper will conduct a feasibility study of the vents in two different airfoils, namely, NACA2412 and NACA23012. The 2D model of the airfoils was developed with CATIA V5R20 and SST K-ω turbulence model was used for CFD analysis. The critical comparison between the resulting data of ventedNACA2412 and vented NACA23012 airfoils will be useful to determine the feasibility of the above mentioned stall delaying technique.
