Abstract
Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) Welding is a type of arc welding process which has its major application in the pressure equipment industries. The shielding gas used in TIG welding avoids the contamination of weld and it also enhances the weld characteristics. Normally, the inert gases are used as shielding gas. The aim of this study is to investigate the weld characteristics of alloy steels with pure argon and argon (80%) mixed with carbon dioxide as shielding gas. During the study, the weld penetration and the number of root passes were monitored. Then the weld characteristics were analyzed by mechanical testing of the welded specimen were examined. Finally, a thorough technical comparison is made for the different shielding gases in detail.
