Abstract

Delay and congestion have always been the problem in the signalized intersection. Studies proved that converting signalized intersection to modern roundabout had been done in several countries and have better improvement in performance. This study analyzes the effect of converting signalized intersection to a modern roundabout in Pelem Gurih Intersection in Indonesia. Delay, travel time and approach speed as the measure of effectiveness compared between a signalized intersection and modern roundabout in the microsimulation using VISSIM. The result of comparison shows that modern roundabout decreases the delay time and increasing the approach speed more than the signalized intersection. Otherwise, modern roundabout takes more time in going through than in signalized intersection in case of travel time results. Hypothesis test also proved that there was an improvement in converting signalized intersection to a modern roundabout.
