Abstract

Abstract Renewable energies have different characteristics comparing to fossil energy, such as wind and solar energies. With the rapidly increasing proportion of renewable power, the consequent impacts on smart grids cannot be neglected. In order to ensure successful operation of smart grids with high renewable energy penetration, advance technologies have been developed. This chapter first addresses basic principles and characteristics of renewable power generation, then impacts of renewable energy on smart grids and specific technologies are further introduced.
