Zavičajna zbirka Spalatina

This paper shows shows the importance of the local history collections in the public libraries as the guardians of the cultural heritage of a particular region, in this case – Local history collection Spalatina of the Marko Marulic City Library in Split. The work can be divided into two parts. The first part deals with the theoretical part on the importance of public libraries in the formation of local history collections. The definitions, organization and operation of the local history collection are presented. The second part of the paper presents Local history collection Spalatina. The history of the collection's origin, its present condition and its importance in the preservation for the Split heritage.
