Social Learning Theory/Social Cognitive Theory

The acquisition of behaviors based on the observation and imitation of others is the central tenet of social learning theory, also referred to as observational learning. The following chapter will provide an overview of social learning theory and its development. Several concepts integral to the central tenets of social learning theory – such as reciprocal determinism, vicarious reinforcement, and the individual's levels of self-efficacy – will be examined.
