Abstract

In the construction and organization of a fish farm, a number of hydro-technical structures are essential. For all these items the following requirements must be met: Supply of good quality water in sufficient quantity, Filling of ponds with water through a system of water supply channels and troughs, Provision for complete draining of water from ponds, Transportation facilities inside farm between ponds; accordingly, some dikes should be appropriately wide and strong and Complete and rational catchment of fish ensured. The periods of filling of foraging ponds located in estuaries and river beds are estimated on one pond and may vary from 25 to 40 days. The time taken for draining such ponds depends mostly on the correctness of the pond’s gradient and draining capacity of the water outlet. Fish ponds may differ in shape, the contours depending on the topography of the area and the production requirements. Wintering ponds should preferably be long straight rectangles to ensure complete water replacement.
