Abstract
In this research, the researcher analyzes a novel entitled The Awakening. The research is focused on woman’s writing models. The background of this research appears based on the argument that in patriarchal system women are always underestimated by men. Those experiences influences women not only in perceiving the reality but also in writing. Therefore, the researcher proposes two statements of problems about woman’s writing models and woman independence in The Awakening novel. To find out the problems, the researcher uses the theory of Showalter (2010) about gynocritics that talks about woman’s writing. In addition, this research uses the descriptive qualitative as the method of the research. As the result, the researcher finds two conclusions in the research firstly The Awakening is a kind of woman’s writing. It is because The Awakening contains of some models of woman’s writing, including the body, language, psyche, and culture. Secondly, There are some woman efforts to get the independence in The Awakening novel such as neglecting the children, disregards the marriage, getting the money by her own hands, and moves away from her husband’s house.
