Abstract

A laboratory experiment was carried out to study the effect of different seed priming treatments for improving the germination of maize seed lots. Pre-sowing seed priming helps to improve germination and stand establishment. Seeds of different maize lots were subjected to different priming treatments viz., Control (untreated seeds), Hydro priming, NaCl (1%), Sea Water, KH2PO4 (2%) and GA3(100 ppm) for 30 hrs. Among the different priming methods GA3 100 ppm excelled others in improving germination and vigour. The percentage increase in germination over control due to GA3 priming treatment was 13%, 22%, 24%, 12%, for the seed lots of maize 3366,maize 207,byrava super 501,byrava super 505, respectively.
