Abstract

In the present thesis, we have a short review on definitions and basic properties of plasmas and some fundamental effects that are important in gas discharge physics, e.g. corss section, mobility, diffusion, etc. Then the electrical breakdown of gases upon dc electric field is described. The Towsend discharge, the effects of space-charge, secondary electron emission, the simillarity low, Pasche’s low are described. Electreal discharge in gases involving dark discharge, glow discharge, different regimes of glow discharge and some other subjects related to them are studied in chapter three in the absence of external magnetic field. In chapter four the effect of magnetic field on gas dischare plasmas are investigated for two configurations: planar discharge and cylindrical discharge. In both cases, we have used numerical analysis to solve the governing model equations. Keywords: Gas discharge,Elementary processes, gas discharge, glow discharge, dark discharge
