Abstract

Lie groups appear naturally as symmetry groups in quantum mechanics. Representation theory of Lie groups can provide information of the physical system of interest. This thesis focusses on the unitary and projective representations of the Lie groups and discusses the historically relevant Wigner's classification of elementary particles.
