Abstract

This publication comprises the first record of a new smut, Ustilago lyginiae sp.nov., on the vegetative parts of culms of the southern hemisphere rush Lyginia barbata (Restionaceae).The smut is readily distinguishable on sorus and teliospore morphology and host specialization.Stages in sorus development and teliospore germination are described.Websdane, K A et al. 1993."Biology and description of Ustilago lyginiae sp.nov., a new culm smut on Lyginia barbata (Restionaceae) in Western
