Abstract

Cognitive radio allows unlicensed operation in licensed bands to support the growing demand for radio spectrum, which aims to tackle the scarcity of electromagnetic spectrum in certain frequency ranges. The goal is to extend the ability to use congested bands through dynamic access. In this research, opportunistic users benefit from dynamic access to spectrum to make use of the frequency bands assigned to licensed users, when they are not operating or when the interference levels are reduced. The goal of this paper is to simulate a cognitive network with the best spectrum allocation for the cognitive user, considering the use of the genetic algorithm.
