Basic data on filial piety from current Japanese university students

The objective of this study was to collect basic data on filial piety by studying current Japanese university students. A survey was conducted among 143 university students, resulting in 123 valid respondents (58 men, 65 women, mean age=18.86 years, SD=0.98). The primary results were as follows: a) Approximately 90% of respondents perceived filial piety as good and necessary, b) 85.4% said they would like to practice filial piety towards their mothers and 78.9% towards their fathers, c)approximately 30% actually practice filial piety towards their mothers and fathers, and d) practicing filial piety had a significant and positive impact on the quality of parent-child relationships.
