Abstract

An estimation of the Direction of Arrival (DOA) is useful for direction-finding and locating the direction of incoming radio waves. The Multiple Signal Classification (MUSIC) algorithm is one of the popular methods for finding the direction of anywhere approaching/receding target. The MUSIC algorithm works effectively for uncorrelated sources but fails to coherent sources. Thus, the estimation of the desired direction using the MUSIC algorithm is limited by the snapshots and other factors. Accurate DOA estimation becomes more significant in several near-future applications, especially for thin beam entry detection. Therefore, working in the existing MUSIC algorithm and modifying it suitably to improve the DOA finding accuracy becomes more significant which is the motivating factor and main contribution in this paper. To obtain accurate DOA estimation, Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) and modified MUSIC algorithm are used and the algorithm is implemented in MATLAB environment. The proposed algorithm deals the correct way in case of coherent sources as well. The simulated results are analyzed.
