Abstract

The adsorbances of Ni, V, Fe, Co, Cr, As, Se, Sb, Mn, and Zn were determined in (a) the bitumens, (b) the hydrous and non-hydrous pyrolysates of the kerogens, and (c) the hydrous and non-hydrous pyrolysates of the shales for the New Albany and Woodford shales. Significant differences in elemental abundances were observed between the pyrolysates obtained from kerogens and the Te abundances in the bitumens. Some of these differences appear to be related to the method of kerogen isolation (HCl/HF digestion) and the formation of elemental sulfur through oxidation of H{sub 2}S generated in the extraction procedure. The implications of these results for oil-resource rock and oil-oil correlation studies are discussed.
