Abstract

This paper presents the different topologies of inverters used in solar power generation systems. The three main inverter configurations viz. centralised inverter, string inverter and micro inverter have been discussed in this review work. The PV module and grid are interfaced with micro inverter. It is the prime responsibility of the PV inverter to extract maximum power available in the solar panel on the PV side and to inject sinusoidal current into the grid. Micro inverter which is a module level inverter provides power conversion with less loss, high reliability, high efficiency and low cost has been discussed. The various standards for the PV installation, the grid and the PV module requirements have been presented. A tabular comparison has been given for the different micro inverter topologies. The topology available with maximum efficiency is 99.01 % with magnetic utilisation of 98%.
