A Study of Construction Waste Management

Abstract

This research is to study the practice of construction waste management within the construction industries. Throughout the study, four major benefits of the construction waste management have been identified. Besides, it also provides the ways to manage construction waste through the 3Rs which is reduce, reuse and recycle. The roles of various parties such as Architect, Property Owner, Contractors etc. in construction waste management are also been clarified through the literature review. In order to achieve the objectives of this study, a questionnaire survey has been selected and the data is collected from 30 respondents who are from the contractor and developer firms in Klang Valley. Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) Version 16.0 is applied for data analysis and the data is tabulated in the form of table, pie chart or bar chart. From the study, the three objectives have been achieved. However, it is clearly shown that there is a lack of practice of construction waste management in Malaysia. Hence, some recommendations were provided to enhance the number of implementation of construction waste management within the construction industries.
