Abstract

Switched reluctance motors (SRMs) have many advantages to be used in several industrial applications. However, SRMs have inherited torque ripple and require advanced control techniques. Indirect instantaneous torque control (IITC) based on torque sharing function (TSF) is a highly appropriate strategy for torque ripple reduction of SRM drives. However, it cannot provide the best torque/ampere ratio compared to average torque control (ATC) for example. Hence, the maximum torque/ampere ratio based on TSF strategy is necessary for SRM drives. In this paper, an improved instantaneous torque control (ITC) scheme based on torque sharing function (TSF) strategy is proposed for SRMs. it can provide the maximum torque/ampere ratio over extended speed ranges. The switching angles are analytically calculated using motor speed and current level. A full dynamic model of the proposed control system is constructed using MATALB/Simulink environment. For accurate modeling and high effective results, the motor magnetic characteristics are obtained using finite element method (FEM). The integrity of proposed system is investigated through simulation under various operating conditions.
