Abstract

CyVerse UK is a collaborative cyberinfrastructure for life science, whose objectives are to ensure researchers have free and easy access to HTC resources while lowering the entry barrier to bioinformatics, thanks both to the easy of use, the availability of GUIs and a number of training opportunities. CyVerse hosts a number of projects such as COPO and Grassroots, relevant due to the increasing number of omics studies in bioinformatics, data management has been proving challenging. COPO is a brokering service between scientists and repositories, that enables management, aggregation and publication of research outputs. COPO eases the process of metadata attribution by presenting an intuitive interface and a wizard to guide the user. COPO also manages accessions of submitted objects, enabling their finding and reusing. Grassroots aims to facilitate consistent approaches to generating, processing and disseminating public wheat datasets so that efforts in wheat research can be translated into community valuable resources thanks to effective sharing and re-use of data. On the computational side, CyVerse UK offers versionised applications users can run both using an API and or through a web interface. The HTCondor pool also accept submissions from a private Galaxy instance reserved to collaborators at BeCA in Kenya. Not only researchers from the UK, but also from the rest of Europe, and in some measure from other continents benefit from these applications. Following the recent expansion of the infrastructure, CyVerse UK offers on demand virtual machines to researchers to support development, training, collaborative virtual laboratories and host servers.
