Abstract

Radiant ceiling cooling systems are used for both thermal comfort condition and energy saving due to the higher supply temperatures with respect to the classical air ventilation systems. In this paper, the characteristics of radiant ceiling cooling system and thermal comfort conditions have been investigated numerically. A three-dimensional mathematical model is simulated using ANSYS Fluent 17.0. Heat transfer in the concrete panel and typical office room is studied. The examined parameters are the pipe configuration type, supply velocity, and supply temperature. Thermal comfort conditions are examined for an office room with one person and two persons. Numerical results are validated with the literature results, and the results are found to be consistent with each other. The results show that a labyrinth pipe configuration gives better comfort conditions than a spiral pipe configuration. Proper values of supply velocity and temperature for the labyrinth pipe configuration are found as 0.49 m/s and 14°C, respectively.
