Immediate posterior chamber intraocular lens implantation in traumatic cataract surgery

Objective To investigate the clinical effect of immediate posterior chamber intraocular lens (P-C IOL) implantation during traumatic cataract surgery. Methods Of 118 cases of uniocular traumatic cataract were treated by P-C IOL implantation and followed up for 3-12 months. The operative effect and complications were analyzed. Results There were 109 cases (92.4%) with the corrected visual acuity ≥0.05; 81 cases (68.6%) ≥0.3; 52 cases (44.1%) ≥0.5; 23 cases (19.5%) ≥0.8. The postoperative complications included early corneal edema, uveitis, pupillary capture and secondary glaucoma. No severe postoperative complications were found after correct treatments. Conclusions The traumatic cataract extraction combined with immediate intraocular lens implantation is safe and effective. Key words: Traumatic cataract;  Immediate intraocular lens implantation
