Abstract
Objective To investigate the significance of free testosterone index in the diagnosis of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Methods Fifty-eight patients with PCOS were selected as the experimental group, and 58 healthy women at the same period were selected as the control group. The signs of all the subjects were scored, the related hormone indexes were measured and the testosterone index (FAI) was calculated. The physical signs and endocrine indexes of the two groups were observed and compared. Results The normal rate of menstruation in the experimental group (13.79%) was significantly lower than that of the control group (96.55%), and the difference was significant (P 0.05). The coincidence rate of FAI with hirsute and acne was significantly higher than that of TT and FT (P 0.05). Conclusions FAI has the highest coincidence rate with hirsutism acne, and FAI was the more sensitive for the diagnosis of PCOS. FAI can reflect the biological activity of serum testosterone in patients with PCOS better, and it is a sensitive indicator for PCOS patients with hyperandrogenism. FAI has high clinical value. Key words: Polycystic ovary syndrome; Free testosterone index; Hyperandrogenism; Diagnosis
