Abstract

Background Dexmedetomidine (DEX) is a highly selectiveα2-adrenergic agonist,which has the characterization of an easy arousal and minimal respiratory depression as well as the good sedation.DEX is used in sedation for critical ill patients.Recent studies indicate that dexmedetomidine can more protective effects for many organs.Objective This review focused on the organ protection of DEX and offering reference for effective clinical practice.Content This review mainly discusses the effects of DEX in lung,kidney,heart,liver,brain and its possible mechanisms.Trend With the progresses of the research,it will provide some new strategies for prevention and treatment in multiple organ dysfunction.
