Abstract

Objective To explore the effect of sodium valproate and topiramate in the treatment of patients with newly diagnosed epilepsy. Methods A total of 90 patients with newly diagnosed epilepsy were selected from January 2014 to December 2015. The patients were divided into group A and group B by random number method. Group A was treated with sodium valproate, while group B was treated with topiramate. Observed clinical efficacy and adverse drug reactions of the two groups. Results The total effective rate was 95.56% in group B, higher than that in group A (P<0.05). The incidence of adverse drug reactions in group B was 4.44%, and that in group A was 20.00%, with statistically significant difference (P<0.05). Conclusion Sodium valproate and topiramate have good effect in the treatment of patients with newly diagnosed epilepsy, but topiramate has better effect and higher safety. Key words: Sodium valproate; Topiramate; Epilepsy
