The effect of low-protein diet on type -2 diabetic early nephropathy

Abstract

Objective To discuss the effect of a low-protein diet or type 2 diabitic nephropathy in renal function and nutritional aspect. Methods One hundred and thirty-four patients treated in hospital or by clinic doctors with microalbuminuria was conducted into two groups with 67 assigned to a protein-restricted diet and 67 assingned to normal protein diet in one year. Results In test group albuminuria decreased significantly (P<0.01).The patients blood glucose, total choiesterol,triglyceride,body mass inder (BMI) had not significant difference between two groups. Conclusions Protein-restricted diet beneficially reduced albuminuria in type 2 diabetes mellitus with microalbuminuria, so as to improve nutritional status and delay the development and progression of diabetic nephropathy.
