The effect of orthokeratology in treatment of yang people with myopia

Objective To investigate the effect of orthokeratology in treatment of yang people with myopia.Methods Totally forty-five patients (88 eyes,20males and 25 females,aged from 9 to 22 years old) with-1.00 ～-6.25DS and astigmatism-0.25 ～-1.00DC received orthokeratology lens treatment in our hospital from August 2009 to July 2011 were observed.All patients were fitted with overnight orthokeratalogy for 8-10 hours at night.The visual acuity,corneal curvature,refraction and the axial length were measured at 1 week,1 month,3 months,6 months after wearing orthokeratalogy.Results Compared with the past,the corneal curvature became lower after 1 week's wearing and the difference was significant (P ＜0.01).Uncorrected visual acuity was 0.75±0.27,0.95±0.11,0.96±0.13,0.95±0.13 at 1 week,1 month,3 months,6 months after wearing orthokeratalogy,respectively.The refraction was 1.33±0.97(D),0.89±0.54(D),0.80±0.35(D),0.73±0.25(D),respectively.The difference was significant (P ＜0.01) compared with the past.The axial length increased (0.09±0.25)mm after wearing orthokeratalogy for 6 months but without a significant difference (P ＞0.05).Only a few patients had a mirror patch corneal epithelium desquamation,conjunctivitis,etc and all could be restored after therapy.Bared visual acuity went back obviously if stop wearing orthokeratology lens.Diopter would recover in 3 months.Conclusions Overnight orthokeratology is an effective and safe for the treatment of adolescent myopia.It is a reversible treatment of myopia.
